Antoxic Studio interview

Antoxic Studio is a one-woman brand created by Christine Helena Greeve, or ‘Christy’, in September 2023. It was born from a “need to overcome toxic behaviour towards (her)self” with its name, 'Antoxic', symbolising an antidote to toxicity.

An internship at UNTITLED RUBBER is where Christy discovered the beauty of latex and the surrounding community, an experience that holds a “special place in (her) heart” after igniting her passion for latex and playing a crucial role in her self growth. After being approached by Lover Management, she lent her latex designs to Vex Ashley and Anna Simpson for a photoshoot featured in Purple Magazine which led to my discovery of Antoxic Studio. This partnership was a joyful turning point for Christy and the future of Antoxic, and she is optimistic about exploring further collaborative ventures.

The difficulty of working with latex was somewhat alleviated after recognising it as a silent collaborator; “it was as if the fabric itself whispered ‘consider your designs more carefully’” she recalls after a dress tore during a photoshoot. This incident inspired a concentration on “finding beauty in the decay” such as adding a slit in the dress and later celebrating a stain on a top as a “sign of use rather than a flaw”. This mindset beautifully reflects Christy's approach, radiating positivity and sustainable thinking. She aims to introduce latex to those unfamiliar with its potential, offering them the opportunity to explore its unique qualities firsthand.

Her designs form a narrative of growth and transformation through her life, driven by her intrigue with taboos and psychology. Drawing inspiration from “the resilience and strength of the powerful individuals (she) admire(s)”, she begins her creative process with a collage before “sometimes sketching ideas, other times surrendering to intuition drawn from the depths of (her) psyche”. She describes herself as being on a 'constant quest for divine beauty,' a pursuit that is evident in all her designs.

On the challenge of balancing innovation and wearability in her designs, Christy’s approach is to evaluate how effectively a design interacts with the body whilst simultaneously keeping true to her vision. Antoxic’s inclusivity of sizes is a significant factor for Christy. In her creation of her wrap top, she discovered its comfortable fit for sizes XS-XL, this was a pivotal revelation and encouraged a continued celebration of diversity in all its forms.

A word from Christy:
“Each garment is lovingly crafted with unwavering dedication, where my attention to detail enriches every piece with refinement and uniqueness. The colour palette, reflecting strength, balance, and a touch of tender vulnerability, contributes to the duality inherent in my work. My approach transcends beyond fashion, emphasising that vulnerability is a wellspring of strength, enabling you to feel powerful in your own body. Wearing ANTOXIC STUDIO is not merely an outward expression but an inner reinforcement—a constant reminder to persevere, even in challenging times.”
